PROKASH KARMARKAR ( b.1934) Born in Calcutta, he studied Fine Arts at the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Calcutta and later trained in Paris on a French Government Fellowship. He was a founder member of the Society of Contemporary Artists, the Calcutta Painters and the Calcutta Art Fair. He has had several solo shows in Calcutta, New Delhi, Mumbai, Paris, Bonn, Antwerp and Geneva. He also participated in the Sao Paulo Biennale (1962), Second International Triennale, New Delhi (1971) and the Asian Biennale, Bangladesh (1991) He received the Lalit Kala Akademi National Award in 1966 and the Birla Academy of Art and Culture Award in 1973. His works are exhibited in the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi.
