JOGEN CHOWDHURY was born in Faridpur, Bengal in 1939, he graduated from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Calcutta. In 1965, he received a scholarship from the French Government to study at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux - Arts, Paris and the Atelier 17. He returned to India in 1970 and in 1972 was appointed curator of Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. His work features in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, the Galerie de Haut Pave, Paris, the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and the Bharat Bhavan in Bhopal. He took part in prestigious exhibitions such as Modern Asian Art, Fukuoka Museum, Japan (1979) Place for People, Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (1981), Contemporary Indian Art, Royal Academy of Arts, London (1982), Artistes Indiens en France, Centre National Des Arts Plastiques, Paris (1985), Contemporary Indian Art, Grey Art Gallery, New York (1985) and Coups de Coeur, Halles de I'Iie, Geneva (1987). He is also a poet. He now resides and works in Shantiniketan.
