MANJIT BAWA (b. 1941 - 2008 ) was born in 1940 at Punjab, he studied at the College of Art in New Delhi and at the London School of Printing. From 1967 to 1971 he worked as a silk - screen printer in London. After returning to India in 1972, he held solo shows in Mumbai and Delhi and was represented in several international exhibitions, including Contemporary Indian Art, Royal Academy of Arts, London (1982), Modern Indian Painting, Hirshhorn Museum, Washington D.C. (1982), Contemporary Indian Art, Grey Art Gallery , New York (1985) and Coups de Cocur, Halles de I'Iie, Geneva (1987). His work is part of the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi and the Punjab University Museum of Chandigarh. He is noted for his love of animal forms and his characteristic use of space and colour. He received the National Award and now lives and works in Delhi. He died 29 December 2008.
